Building Challenge

After reading The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein, the kids were challenged to build the tallest tower possible using only dry spaghetti and marshmallows. It took a lot of cooperation, creativity and perseverance, but the kids did a great job creating towers that they were very proud of.  Check out some of the building in progress.

Animated Storytelling

Today we began a unit on coding. The students will develop the ability to create digital animated stories on an iPad or computer. We will be exploring the sequential nature of computer programs through hands-on activities, both with and without a computer. Then the kids will apply the skills and knowledge learned from the activities to design and program a simple digital animated story that interacts with the reader.

Here are some photographs from today's introductory activity. The kids were using simple commands to guide a dog named Rosie to her bones and then to her doghouse. 

Gardening and Animal Posters

Meredith helped us plant sunflower seeds today in class. Later we will be making pea teepees in the back gardens. We are going to be anxiously awaiting for our seeds to sprout.
