Although, this was a fiction story, our current writing unit is focusing on opinion writing. The class is learning to write their thoughts on many different subjects and to support their thinking with details and elaboration. Right now many of the kids are writing their opinions about the best pet to get, in response to the books What Pet to Get? by Emma Dodd and Prudence Wants a Pet by Cathleen Daly. Lots of kids think that puppies and kittens are the best pet to get, but there are others who are writing about snakes, horses and fish. Ask your child what they are writing about!
