Friday Art Project
At least once a week (I wish it was more), we do a whole class art project. Last week we drew cardinals and used tempera paint to really make them colorful. Check out the beautiful pictures the kids created! ( I couldn't get the pictures of the final projects to rotate, so they are sideways)
Math Club
Thursday is math club day! The kids are invited to join me at recess to play math games to work on fact fluency and number concepts. We had a great time today, playing games and singing along to our play sound track!

Play Practice Begins!!
Today was the first day of play practice. The kids were introduced to "the rules" of the stage and we began rehearsing the first song. We talked a lot about the importance of working together to make our play great! Teamwork is key to the success of any production. Looking forward to tomorrow and learning more about our play.

Cookies!!
We had a great time decorating cookies for the Boxes of Cheer! Thank you so much to all the families who donated supplies and cookie dough. The cookies are beautiful and so creative. Thank you Meredith for being our photographer and sharing these beautiful photos with us!

Snowman Stretch Challenge
On Friday, the kids participated in a STEM challenge. Working in small groups, they were challenged to build the tallest snowman possible, using only paper and tape. The only constraints were that it had to be able to stand on its own, it could only have three sections and must have a hat. The kids worked very hard to make a plan and to build their snowman. They quickly learned that some shapes are more sturdy than others and that sometimes your first plan doesn't work and you need to try something different (which is okay!). Check out some of the projects in progress and the finished snowmen!

More Second Grade Fun
On Thursday, we had a visit from two of our sixth grade friends, Anna and Lindsey. They taught our class about recycling here at school. The kids played a game that the girls had made to learn about what is recyclable and what is not.
Today at recess I had a great time hanging with this crew! It was beautiful out today. So much fun!
Art projects are always a hit with this group of second graders. Last week we talked about perspective and learned how to draw snowmen from a "mouse eye" view. These beautiful snowmen are on display in the hall near the library.
Finally, a group of kids have been working hard to write and perform a holiday puppet show. They wrote their own script, made their own props and practiced together. Today they performed their show for all the other first and second graders!
