Summer Project Sharing

The kids have been working so hard to complete collages about their summer. Today they worked in small groups to share the finished products and to hear all about their friends summer adventures! Not only did we hear about all the fun things that everyone did this summer, but the kids got to work on their speaking and listening skills, too. What a great job they did.

Also, a huge shout out to all the kids for doing such a wonderful job while our classroom is under construction. They have been amazing!

Stay tuned for pictures of our new space on the stage. It looks really great. Bisbee's has kindly donated a rug to help make our temporary classroom more cozy. Feel free to come check it out. Our second grade adventures continue!

Second Grade is a HOOT!

Check out the unique owls we created Friday afternoon. They are hanging in the hallway, just past the double doors.

First Day of Second Grade!

It's so great to be back in the classroom with this crew. What an amazing group of kids! I've missed them this summer. We had lots of fun together today.

We made name decorations for the door.  They look really cool!

Later in the day, the kids traced their hand and arm, decorated them with crayons and finally used watercolors to make them colorful. These will be a part of our "Reach for the Stars" bulletin board above the cubbies outside of the  classroom.

Looking forward to another great day tomorrow!

Final Days

It's hard to believe that school is almost done for the year. This time of year is always bittersweet, everyone is so excited for summer fun, but it is sad to be ending such a great year! I am so fortunate that I will get to spend next year with this amazing group of kids as second graders. I'm all ready planning some of the exciting things we will be doing.

Over the last few weeks we have had a lot happening at school. Check out some of the fun things below.

With our 4-Winds teachers Julia and Erika, we walked down to the stream to explore the creatures living there.

Dinoman came to visit and put on a very funny show all about dinosaurs. After we attended a workshop with him, so we could explore his fossils up close.

Last Friday we went on a nature scavenger hunt and hike on the Eaton Trail. We were also working on teamwork and cooperation as the kids worked in groups of two or three.

Then this Friday we had a "Slumber Party" in the classroom and did some gardening with Jeannie Sargent.

Looking forward to another week of fun and learning!

Mapping

This week we have been learning about the parts of a map, such as symbols, labels, key, Compass Rose and title. We read a great book by Loreen Leedy called "Mapping Penny's World".  Then today we made maps of the things on our desk tops. The kids were surprised at how precise their maps needed to be in order for others to use it correctly!

Book Share

Last week, our class shared the teaching books they have been working so hard on with their buddies. The 5th and 6th graders were really impressed!
